[0:00] And they ran into tomb after tomb, all

[0:03] perfectly preserved.

[0:05] And what had happened is

[0:08] in 300

[0:09] and 30 AD, the Emperor Constantine had

[0:13] promised his mother

[0:15] to build a great church over the remains

[0:18] of Peter.

[0:19] And so that's exactly what he did, but

[0:21] he filled the whole hill

[0:23] so that all these tombs were sealed

[0:26] essentially for eternity

[0:28] uh by hundreds of feet of fill.

[0:31] And then the Vatican was constructed on

[0:34] top of that. Plumb bob down, it turns

[0:37] out, over the tomb of Peter

[0:39] uh from the very top.

[0:41] The barbarians swept in, knowledge

[0:44] disappeared, people knew of the family

[0:46] tombs, but they were just a legend.

[0:49] And

[0:50] then

[0:51] uh in 1939

[0:54] Pius XI wanted to be buried under the

[0:56] Vatican, unbelievable.

[0:58] So they began burying and a workman fell

[1:01] another 30 ft down. All of a sudden,

[1:04] he's in a family tomb.

[1:06] And it's the family tomb of a woman

[1:09] from the 1st century named Amelia

[1:12] Gorgonus, and it has the fish symbol

[1:15] and so on. And people are saying, "Wait

[1:17] a second, this is a Christian deal from

[1:19] the 1st century. How can this exist?"

[1:22] And so that's what lit the whole thing

[1:24] off, and that's what caused Pius XII,

[1:27] who'd always believed

[1:28] in uh

[1:30] the location of Peter under the Vatican.

[1:32] And then Yeshua is a Christian because

[1:34] of the fish symbol, right? Christians

[1:35] back then would use the fish symbol as

[1:37] as a sign of Christ.
